WANDER
STATION
Tap the map. Hear the world.
WANDERSTATION is a map of independent and unsung audio from around the world. There are no charts, no rankings, no algorithm and no paid placement. You wander, you listen, and you keep what you love on your shelf.
For listeners
- No account, no cookies, no tracking. WANDERSTATION doesn't keep a record of what you listen to.
- Your shelf stays on your phone. It isn't sent anywhere, so it won't follow you to another device.
- Your location never leaves your phone. The pin button uses it only to find the audio nearest to you.
- Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, and each programme streams from its creator's own podcast host.
- If you pin a show, we keep the email address you give us only to tell you when your pin is live.
For creators
Your audio belongs to you. WANDERSTATION works the way any podcast app does, using the public RSS feed you publish:
- It never copies or re-hosts your audio. Every episode streams straight from your own host, so plays count in your download figures and any ads you've sold still run.
- It never edits your audio or inserts ads. Nothing is added before, during or after your episodes. The tuning sounds play only in the gap between programmes.
- It credits you. Your show name and an "Original" link back to your episode page are shown while it plays.
- Most shows are here because their creators tagged a location in their own feed, using the Podcasting 2.0
<podcast:location>tag. A few are hand-picked.
Take your show off the map
You can leave at any time, in either of two ways.
1. Ask us. Send your show's RSS feed address and we'll take it off the map, usually within a few days.
2. Opt out in your own feed. If you can add a tag to your feed, this one takes your show off WANDERSTATION automatically the next time someone tries to play it:
<podcast:block id="wanderstation">yes</podcast:block>
It removes you from WANDERSTATION only. A general <podcast:block>yes</podcast:block> or <itunes:block>Yes</itunes:block> is honoured too.
Put your show on the map
Independent creators can pin their own show, free, and recommend one other independent show they love. Museums, venues, councils and attractions can pin audio about their place too. A person checks every pin.
